18-cm long human tail surgically removed in Azerbaijan

An unusual surgical operation was realized in Azerbaijan. A team of neurosurgeons in Baku, Azerbaijan successfully removed an 18-cm long human tail from the back of an 17-year old boy after its abnormal growth turned painful for him, the surgeon Ismail Eskerov, who realized the surgery told, ONA reports citing E-Tibb.az.

The surgeon said that the young man went to the hospital with a complaint that he had a process since birth in the tailbone area: “It was difficult for him to sit, it hurts. There were also difficulties with wearing clothes.”

The doctor said that this case could be in newborns, but 18 centimeter process in a 17-year-old person is a neglected case: “The patient and his family did not go to the doctors because of shame and condemnation. Parents believed that this "tail" - a gift from "Hanuman" - the Indian god of monkeys. The operation was performed under general anesthesia. During the preliminary examination, it was found that the process is not connected with the spine and nerves. ”
