Roundtable “Strengthening the role of law-enforcement bodies in protecting people from domestic violence” held in Baku

Baku. Ulviyya Aliyeva-APA. OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Interior Ministry and "Simmetria" Azerbaijan Gender Association have organized a roundtable “Strengthening the role of law-enforcement bodies in protecting people from domestic violence” in the Police Academy of Interior Ministry. APA reports that draft law on domestic violence, which is on the agenda of the Parliament, was discussed and offices of the law-enforcement bodies gave recommendations at the roundtable.
Representative of OSCE/ODIHR Tina Illsen noted that domestic violence and combating these cases was the priority of OSCE agenda. Tina Illsen said there was great improvement in the program implemented in Azerbaijan with the support of OSCE since 2001.
Representative of Austria’s Interior Ministry Karl-Heinz Grundboek said the role of the police should be strengthened and added that trainings should be organized for combating domestic violence.
