The wolves often attack to farms and damage the cattle. Residents of Boyuk Bahmanli village killed several wolves last week. The residents said that, there is no report on wolves’ attack to people.
Ramazan Ismayilov, head of Azerbaijani Hunters Association told the APA that number of wolves in Azerbaijan increased within past years.
Ismayilov said that Azerbaijan joined European Convention on the prohibition of hunting wolves, and therefore hunters were prohibited to hunt these animals.
“Those who hunt wolves are fined. Even they are arrested,” he said.
Ismayilov said that residents of some regions appeal regarding wolves’ harming their farms, attacks of wolves to people.
“We have appealed to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and asked them to raise issue in Parliament on allowing hunt of the wolves. Azerbaijan should leave this Convention,” he said.
Ismayilov said that wolves are mostly observed in Absheron, Shamakhi, Bilasuvar, Lenkeran, Sheki, Zagatala and frontline regions. /APA/
