993 municipalities to be cancelled in Azerbaijan

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev â€“ APA. 993 municipalities will be abolished in Azerbaijan. It was said at the meeting of the parliamentâ€™s committee for regional issues, APA reports. Chief of the committee Arif Rahimzadeh said the number of 2757 municipalities would be reduced. He said the document on merging the municipalities presented to the parliament envisaged abolition of 993 municipalities.
â€œWith the 1st and 5th Zobujug municipalities that will be established in Fuzuli region the total number of municipalities will be 1766,â€ he said.

Draft law â€œOn establishing the 1st Zobujug and 5th Zobujug municipalities of the new settlements in Fuzuli regionâ€ was discussed at the meeting. Giving information about the draft law, Rahimzadeh said five new settlements had been established for refugees and IDPs in Zobujug. The committee chief said a lot of people were living in those settlements.
â€œIt is proposed to establish the 1st Zobujug municipality covering the 1st Zobujug and 2nd Zobujug settlements and the 5th Zobujug municipality covering the 3rd Zobujug, 4th Zobujug and 5th Zobujug settlements. The population of these municipalities is approximately 1000-1500, there is necessary condition and infrastructure to establish new municipalities,â€ he said.

Following the discussions, both issues were recommended to the parliamentâ€™s plenary meeting.
