Russian TV presenter Andrey Malakhov and supermodel Natalia Vodianova hosted the first semi-final, APA correspondent reports form Moscow. 18 countries â€“ Montenegro, Czech Republic, Belgium, Sweden, Belarus, Switzerland, Armenia, Andorra, Turkey, Israel, Bulgaria, Iceland, Macedonia, Romania, Finland, Portugal, Malta and Bosnia and Herzegovina participated at the first semi-final. 10 countries â€“ Turkey, Switzerland, Israel, Portugal, Malta, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Armenia and Iceland were qualified for the final.

The winners of the first semi-final held a press conference after the contest. Numbers of their performances at the final were determined during the press conference. Turkey will be 18th at the final on May 16, Switzerland â€“ 4, Israel -2, Portugal â€“ 6, Malta â€“ 14, Finland â€“ 24, Bosnia and Herzegovina â€“ 12, Romania -22, Armenia â€“ 9, Iceland â€“ 7. Turkish singer Hadise Acikgoz said at the press conference that she was happy to win the semi-final and to be qualified for the final. The journalist marked her â€œas the most beautiful participant of the contestâ€, but she said â€œevery participant was beautiful and the question was not only about herâ€.

All the representatives qualified for the final said they would have a rest a little. Representative of Switzerland Malena Ernman said her strongest rival in the contest was Sakis Rouvas of Greece. Representatives of Israel Noa and Mira Awad said with their song they wished peace to the whole world.
â€œWe say no to all evil, wars, we only want peace.â€
Representative of Malta Chiara, who participates in the contest for the third time, thinks that she will win this year.
â€œI have twice participated in Eurovision contest. I have ranked the second and the third. This time I have come to win. I will reach my goal. I am resolute and will not step back without winning,â€ she said.

The second semifinal of Eurovision-2009 contest will be held on May 14. Azerbaijanâ€™s representatives Aysel Teymurzadeh and Arash will be the 12th in the second semifinal.
