Currently, there are no discussions between relevant state agencies on the issue of opening cremation centers, the State Committee on Work with Religious Institutions of Azerbaijan said in response to APA's inquiry.
It was noted that the issue has legal, practical and religious-social aspects.
It was noted that according to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Freedom of Religious Belief", everyone living in Azerbaijan has the right to profess any religion alone or together with others, to express and spread their beliefs regarding their attitude to religion.
"The "Rules for the Establishment and Management of Cemeteries", approved by Resolution No. 522 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated December 4, 2018, contains provisions regulating the process of cremation of a deceased person in accordance with his or her religious affiliation and beliefs. Currently, there are no discussions between relevant state agencies on the issue of opening cremation centers," the statement said.
It should be noted that recently, reports has been circulating in the press that cremation centers will be opened in the country.
