The 21st International Muslim Forum has been held in Moscow, APA’s Russia bureau reports.
The forum, themed “Peace and Trust in the Era of Deglobalization: An Islamic Perspective on Contemporary Challenges,” brought together senior muftis, diplomats, officials, and religious leaders from dozens of countries across the Islamic world.
Azerbaijan was represented at the forum by Vice Speaker of the Milli Majlis Rafael Huseynov.
The main focus of the forum was the search for peace and trust amid global changes.
Opening the event, Secretary General of the forum and Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, strongly condemned the recent attack in Australia. He noted that the forum coincided with several significant anniversaries, including the 1500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad and the 1200th anniversary of Imam al-Tirmidhi. Gaynutdin emphasized that the current stage of international relations requires a fundamentally new approach to cooperation.
In his speech, Vice Speaker Rafael Huseynov spoke about the restoration of mosques in Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation. He stated that although Islam emerged in the 7th century, its progressive values remain relevant today and for the future. Huseynov noted that more than 400 religious sites, including mosques and places of worship, were destroyed during the occupation, and that Azerbaijan is restoring them under the “Great Return” program. He stressed that prayers now heard in these mosques call not for revenge or hatred, but for peace, stability, and reconciliation, presenting Azerbaijan’s experience as a model aligned with Islamic values.
The forum’s moderator, Deputy Mufti of Russia Damir Mukhetdinov, recalled that the anniversary of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, is being commemorated these days and paid tribute to his memory.
The forum continued its work with panel discussions.
