CMO Chairman congratulates newly elected Georgian Patriarch

Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, has congratulated the newly elected Patriarch of Georgia, the Caucasus Muslims Office told APA.

The congratulatory message stated that the election of Metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, Shio (Mujiri) as Catholicos-Patriarch by the expanded council of the Georgian Orthodox Church reflected the position of all Georgian clergy and the Georgian people.

The message expressed confidence that Metropolitan Shio, as the successor of the late Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, would spare no effort to preserve and further develop the exemplary religious and spiritual relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as productive cooperation between the peoples.

“After our states restored their independence, the first Christian religious leader to visit Azerbaijan was Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. Taking this opportunity, I am proud to invite you to Azerbaijan,” the congratulatory message said.+
