Christmas was celebrated in the Russian Orthodox Church named after Alexander Nevsky in Ganja, APA's local bureau reports.
On the eve of Christmas Eve, January 7, the day of the birth of Jesus Christ according to the Orthodox calendar, Orthodox Christians living in Ganja celebrated the arrival of the holy holiday together in the church.
First, the congratulations of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Christmas was read.
Then, the religious staff of the Alexander Nevsky Church performed rituals on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Orthodox lit candles in the church, prayed for peace, tranquility and happiness, and drank holy water. Prayers were also read for the souls of those who died in the Patriotic War. The Orthodox noted that they have been celebrating this holiday in Ganja for many years and have never faced any problems.
