After Azerbaijan restored its independence, taking into account the requests of the muftis of the North Caucasus and Derbent, historically within the sphere of influence of the Office (Caucasus Muslims Office – ed.), as well as the Azerbaijani population of the region, and in accordance with the Law “On Freedom of Religious Belief,” the activities of our representations and qazis have expanded, Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, said during his speech at a joint event organized by the Caucasus Muslims Office and the Western Azerbaijan Community, APA reports.
He noted that the Caucasus Muslims Office currently operates representations and qazis in Istanbul, Tbilisi, Batumi, and Derbent: “Efforts to expand our geographical coverage continue. At present, we are holding discussions with the intention of establishing a representation in the Vatican. The Caucasus Muslims Office, headquartered in Baku, is the only regional public-religious organization operating in Azerbaijan that encompasses Muslims of Georgia, Armenia, and the North Caucasus in addition to Azerbaijan."
