Azerbaijan discovers unique religious temple with distinctive size and structure in South Caucasus for the first time

A unique religious temple, distinguished by its size and structure, has been discovered in the South Caucasus for the first time, this information was reflected in the Cabinet of Ministers' report for 2024, APA reports.

As part of the study on "Research of Middle and Late Bronze Age monuments," archaeological excavations were carried out at the ancient settlement of Tavatapa in the Agstafa district in collaboration with European specialists. The scientific research was conducted within the framework of cooperation between the Mediterranean and Near Eastern Archaeological Research Center in Florence, Italy, Catania University, and the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

During the excavations, a religious temple, unique in the South Caucasus for its size and structure, was discovered for the first time. According to the report, the archaeological monument is of great importance for studying not only the economic life and daily activities of the tribes belonging to the Khojaly-Gadabay culture but also their religious worldview.
