II Ilia, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia called back Iosif Janbazashvili, priest of St. George temple and appointed George Abasashvili instead of his place. Newly- appointed priest will take up his duties in a few days. Sources in Gakh –ingiloy village told the APA’s local bureau.
Abasashvili was a priest in this temple three years ago. Janbazashvili substituted him a year ago. Georgians living in Gakh had no problems when Abasashvili was a priest.
APA reported a few days ago that State Committee for Religious Affairs gave Janbazashvili a month to receive Azerbaijani citizenship. Otherwise he would be deported from Azerbaijan.
Ziyafet Khasayeva, Deputy Head of Gakh Executive Power for scientific, educational and cultural issues stated that non-citizen can not represent and propagate any religious organizations.
“It seems that Janbazashvili who did not want to receive citizenship was oblige to return Georgia,” she said.
Janbazashvili gave bias information to Georgian government about closing Georgian church for straining Georgia-Azerbaijan relations. He even pretended that Kurmuk - Albanian church registered as historical monument in Gakh belongs to Georgians. The investigations of two countries’ senior officials revealed that Janbazashvili gave bias information to Georgian government./APA/
