Art department dean Aminat Nakhova expelled 8 veiled students and said that they will not be allowed to attend classes until they take off the veil.
The veiled girls said they were warned several time to take off veils while they are at class.
Aminat Nakhova denied expulsion of veiled students, telling APA correspondent that they were only warned and advised to take off their veil.
“They refused the recommendations and warnings. They also refused to attend the classes. We demand every student to adhere to the uniform code and rules and to attend classes with a veil,” she added.
Azerbaijan Institute of Teachers said there is no order of the institute rector to ban the veiled students from classes.
Haji Ilgar Ibrahimoghlu, chairman of the defense center for Religious Belief and Freedom of Conscience, said they have not received any complaint.
“We are trying to learn what has happened. We will do the best to solve the problem is there is any,” he added. /APA-Economics/
