"A total of 815 complaints were received by the Press Council during the reporting period. Of these, 691 were resolved at the Secretariat level, and an agreement was reached between the parties," Chairman of the Press Council Rashad Majid said during his speech at the 9th Congress of Azerbaijani journalists, APA reports.
He noted that since no agreement was reached on the remaining 124 complaints, the collected materials were submitted to the Council's Complaints Commission for consideration:
"Of the 124 cases reviewed by the Complaints Commission, 86 were resolved at the commission level. Opinions on 38 cases were submitted to the Board of Directors for decision-making. Thus, the Council's Board of Directors adopted a total of 38 decisions during the period between congresses. The decisions mainly emphasized journalists' negligence in covering the positions of opposing parties, and relevant recommendations were provided. I should also note that, in addition to the many complaints resolved at the Secretariat level, the Council also received verbal appeals. Their number was approximately twice that of officially submitted complaints. Of course, although in many cases such complaints expressed dissatisfaction with journalists, the essence of the issues was actually outside the competence of the Press Council. Nevertheless, the number of issues we resolved through verbal negotiations with the parties was quite significant."
