Territory of Baku Sea Port to be completely emptied

The first stage of the project will be completed this year, the second stage in 2015. Ferryboat terminal with all road infrastructure will be opened in the first stage, architect of International Sea Trade Port Complex Nazim Mahmudov told APA-Economics.


He said all infrastructure related to the current Baku International Sea Trade Port will be removed by June 30. Following this, the enlargement of the National Park will be started.


The project architect said Azerbaijan owns the biggest ferryboat terminal in the Caspian Sea, it covers 400ha area.
“Four freight bridges, bridge for receiving Ro-Ro ships, storehouses, railway and motor roads are being built. The target is to complete construction of ferryboat terminal in the first half of this year. After the ferryboat terminal is ready, it will be able to receive two large ships,” he said.


Mahmudov said the length of the bridges will be 650 meters. The architect said the noticeable moments is container terminal.


“40 000 containers are planned for the first stage. Moreover, 10 million tonnes of cargo will be delivered in this stage. The cargo will be increased as the stages of the project are being implemented,” he said.


Customs and border services will be established at Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex.


As a part of the construction of the port complex, the railway will be also restored there. A station consisting of 11 roads will be built inside the port. All railroads will be restored.


Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex has caused interest of the neighboring and other foreign countries. Kazakhstan has appealed for delivery of 20 million tones of cargo. Turkey and UAE (Dubai) are also interested in the delivery of cargo through the port.


A large logistics center will be built in the territory of the port complex this year.
