Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. Azerbaijan is a leader among the CIS countries for the number of Internet users, APA reports.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Elmir Valizadeh said at scientific-practical conference on “Protection of intellectual property rights in virtual space” that 70 in every 100 people are Internet users in the country. Valizadeh noted that the government isn’t satisfied with this figure and would expand broadband Internet access next year. He said that the number of broadband Internet subscribers will be increased to 85% with fiber-optic cables constructed in all villages of the country. “Broadband Internet access will be provided to all people in the future,” he said.

Deputy Minister noted that the number of licensed software users also rose this year: “Azerbaijan bought 10 000 licenses and distributed among government agencies a few years ago. It is good that this process is continued by state agencies, as well as banks and private companies contribute to the protection of intellectual property by joining it. As a result of it, use of licensed software increased this year.”
