Azerbaijani parliament starts discussing draft law on “Seaports”

Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu – APA-Economics. The next meeting of Economic Policy Committee of Milli Majlis has been held today. APA-Economics reports that the draft law on “Seaports” has been discussed at today’s meeting.

 

Committee Chairman Ziyad Samadzadeh said this draft law is important. He said new ports are being constructed in Baku and other regions: “Adoption of this draft law will contribute to extending and developing ties with other countries in the Caspian Sea”.

 

Deputy Head of State Marine Administration Ehtiram Rahimov noted that new law will regulate relations in commercial navigation in the seaports of the country. According to him, the law defines construction, opening, closure of ports, as well as regulation of activity in seaports by the state.

 

Rahimov said that the law on seaports should meet constitution of the country, principles and norms of international law, international agreements wherein the Azerbaijan Republic is one of the parties, Code of Commercial Navigation and other laws and normative-legal acts of the country: “This law envisages providing service to ships and passengers used for commercial navigation and located in a special area of water and other services”.

 

Rahimov stressed that the law also envisages main requirements of the port for owners of infrastructure objects, service rules ad financing issues.

 

The draft law has been recommended to the plenary meeting of the parliament.
