Azerbaijan to earn $650 mln from exploitation of the first satellite

To him, the satellite will be tested within the coming 20 days, thereafter Azerspace-1 will start commercial activity: ‘Uptime of the satellite is 15 years and during this period Azerbaijan will gain $650 mln income, whereas construction of Azerspace-1, its insuring, launching to orbit and creation of surface infrastructure cost $230 mln’.

Abbasov also added that Azerbaijan’s satellite will be launched into low earth orbit in 2015, second telecommunication – in 2016.

Remind that, Azerbaijan's first telecommunications satellite (Azerspace-1) launched to orbit on February 8. Azerspace-1 manufactured by the US-based Orbital Sciences Corporation. Azerspace/Africasat-1 will weigh approximately 3,250kg at liftoff, and has a designed mission life of 15 years. Carrying 36 active C- and Ku-band transponders, the spacecraft is to provide communications services to Azerbaijan, Central Asia, Europe and Africa from an orbital location of 46 degrees East.

Some 20% of satellite will be used to meet Azerbaijan’s demand, other 80% - for commercial purposes. Conditional contracts for utilization of 44% of the satellite have already been signed.
