Azerbaijan’s ICT sphere discussed at the Eurasian Economic Summit

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Successes of Azerbaijan in ICT sector were discussed at the Eurasian Economic Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies, Azerbaijani Minister of Communication and IT Ali Abbasov noted that regularly reforms were conducted in Azerbaijan to reduce dependency on oil and gas incomes: “In this context, ICT development is significant. ICT also changed to a factor defining development of other spheres. A lot of amount was allocated to develop broadband internet”.

The minister also noted that Azerbaijan, of which 20%-territories were occupied by Armenians, pays attention to implementation of infrastructure projects. But, continuation of the occupation prevents full cooperation.

At the same time, 2 resolutions on TASIM (Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway) were adopted by the UN with the initiative of Azerbaijan to achieve development in internet and ICT sphere. Abbasov added that Azerbaijan also appreciated fighting against cyber crime and is ready for collaboration.
