Baku Metro completes turnaround track's major reconstruction at Hazi Aslanov station - PHOTO - UPDATED

Major renovation and reconstruction works on the turnaround track of Hazi Aslanov station of Baku Metro CJSC, one of the companies of AZCON Holding, have been fully completed, APA-Economics reports.

With the recommissioning of the turnaround track, shuttle train operations on the Hazi Aslanov–Ahmadli section will be discontinued in the coming days. Train operations on the Icherisheher–Hazi Aslanov section will be restored to the schedule in place before the renovation. Thus, train intervals on the Red Line will be 2 minutes during peak hours and 2 minutes and 30 seconds at other times.

The structural insulation of the turnaround track, constructed between 1981 and 1987, had deteriorated and suffered severe corrosion due to groundwater and soil erosion over more than 20 years of operation.

As part of the comprehensive reconstruction, all infrastructure of the turnaround track, with a total length of nearly 1 km, was completely dismantled and rebuilt, except for the ceiling. Each track was extended by 20 meters to accommodate six-car trains.

As part of the reinforcement works, grouting was carried out at a depth of 1.5–2 meters to prevent the impact of groundwater, precipitation, and water from utility lines. The side and central walls were dismantled in stages and replaced with new concrete structures, and anti-corrosion measures were implemented.

For the first time in the history of Baku Metro, specially tested carbon fiber materials were used to increase the durability of the ceiling. Reinforcement was carried out behind the tunnel lining using injection methods, and protective paint was applied to the walls and ceiling.

In the track infrastructure, the floor covering was reinforced and a new track bed was installed. Wooden sleepers were replaced with ballastless tracks using reinforced concrete blocks, and six new track switches were installed on monolithic foundations.

The modern aluminum-based conductor rail enables electricity savings and facilitates maintenance. At the same time, communication, power supply, fiber-optic cable, fire protection, video surveillance, sanitation, water supply and sewage, and ventilation systems were completely renewed.

The implemented project aims to technically modernize an important operational section of the metro and ensure the quality, safety, and longevity of passenger transportation.

Note that the project to improve the structural stability of the turnaround track at Hazi Aslanov station was implemented based on the action plan for the implementation of the State Program for 2025–2030.
