# 01 September 2008 09:01 (UTC +04:00)
Baku. Rashad Suleymanov -APA-Economics. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is bringing together experts from 25 countries to discuss Trans-European Railway (TER) and Trans-European Motorway (TEM) projects in Hallstatt, Austria on September 2-4.
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport said that the expert meeting will focus on the master plans of the two projects suggested in 2004-2005.
Azerbaijan will be represented by Transport Policy and Economy Officer Ali Gasimov and International Relations Officer Shain Ismailov.
UNECE is the principal UN body studying and promoting economic cooperation and the improvement of economic relations among countries of Europe and North America.
In 1977, UNECE launched the Trans-European North-South Motorway (TEM) project, a cooperative framework for the governments of Eastern and Central Europe to develop an international highway network with uniform standards in such areas as construction, border crossing procedures and safety and environmental compatibility.
The experience of TEM encouraged Central and Eastern European UNECE member countries to launch a Trans-Europe Railway (TER) project for the development of a coherent rail and combined transport system in the region. Railway companies will be assisted in turning towards market-oriented management. Both the TEM and TER projects are operated through a trust fund
