International Electro-Communication Union: Azerbaijan settles in Top 10 for coverage of population with mobile communications and Internet services

Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA-Economics. For the growth of coverage of population with mobile communications and Internet services in 2010-2011, Azerbaijan has settled in the Top 10, it was reported in the ‘Measuring the Information Society-2012’ prepared by the International Electro-Communication Union, APA reports.

Azerbaijan advanced 5 steps for development of telecommunication services, it climbed from 73rd to 68th place. The top 3 is shared between Korea, Switzerland and Denmark.

Currently, the number of mobile communication subscribers has reached 6 bln in the world, that is, there are 86 telephones for every 100 people. Within last year, mobile communications extended 11%.

At the same time, the number of broadband users increases, too. Over the last year, the number of Internet users grew by 11% in the world. This figure hit 2.3 bln at the end of 2011. In other words, 1/3 part of planet inhabitants use the Internet.

Report authors think that the cheapest prices of ICT services are in the CIS and European countries.
