ADB holds the first meeting of working group on Mainstreaming Land Acquisition and Resettlement Safeguards in Baku

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. On September 26, Asian Development Bank (ADB) conducted the first meeting of a working group established under an ADB technical assistance on Mainstreaming Land Acquisition and Resettlement Safeguards in the Central and West Asia Region in Baku.

ADB representation to Azerbaijan told APA-Economics that The working group consists of 13 representatives of government organizations including Ministry of Transportation, Finance, Emergency Situations, Agriculture, Ecology and Natural Resources, Baku Executive Power, State Land and Cartography Committee, Azerenerji, Azeryolservice, and Azerbaijan Water Amelioration and Water Industry. The group was led by Ministry of Finance.

The TA commenced on January 30, 2012 aims to foster more effective implementation of infrastructure projects requiring land and involuntary resettlement. The TA provides capacity building program and will develop procedures and technical tools to prepare and execute better land acquisition and resettlement plans.

The working group started reviewing the capability of its organization and identifying issues in acquiring land properties for public use. The meeting was guided by an ADB consultant. The TA is to be completed by February, 2014.
