Azerbaijan intends to extend ICT cooperation with European Union

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Ali Abbasov, Minister of Communication and Information Technology of Azerbaijan met with Fuad Isgandarov, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Belgium, head of Azerbaijani delegation to the European Union. They held discussions on ICT aspect in Belgium-Azerbaijan relations.
The Ministry told APA-Economics that the ambassador said that Belgium has a wide experience in ICT sphere, as well as post system among the EU member-countries and from this point of view there are many prospects for the cooperation with Azerbaijan, one of the leading countries of region in ICT sphere.
Underlining the importance and necessity of a wide range of works in the above-mentioned sphere Isgandarov said that if we consider that the central office of the European Union locates in Brussels, this cooperation can create new stage and cause reviving in the relations of Azerbaijan with EU member-countries in political sphere, including ICT.
Isgandarov also noted that European Commissioner for Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes will participate in the 7th Internet Governance Forum to be held in November, Baku by joint organizing of the UN and Azerbaijani government. A wide range of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in ICT sphere can be considered and new cooperation directions can be determined within the visit.
In his turn, Ali Abbasov said that the visit can give useful results in the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) project, where Azerbaijan was appointed a coordinator by the UN and relations with Western Europe countries, the main investors of the TASIM.
