Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA-Economics. 50% of Azerbaijani population was covered by internet, 10.7% - by broadband stationary communication, the Broadband Commission for Digital Development reported.

The report informs about economic benefits of spread of new info-communication technologies and increase of internet users in 177 countries. It was noted that, 2.26 bln person have access to internet.

Germany ranks first. 83% of population has access to internet. This index in US makes 77.9%, in Russia – 49% and in China – 38.3%.

About broadband communication spreading, Liechtenstein heads for number of stationary systems’ subscribers/number of population ratio (71.6%). France holds 7th place (36.1%), US – 18th (28.7%), Russia – 50th (12.2%) and China – 53rd (11.6%).

Approximately 10.7% of population use broadband stationary communication. This index makes 9.9% in Moldova, 7.6% - in Georgia, 7.5% - in Kazakhstan, 7% - in Ukraine, 5% - in Armenia, 0.5% - in Uzbekistan, 0.1% - in Tajikistan.

According to International Electrocommunication Union, half of world’s population will have access to broadband communication devices to internet in 2015. This will be mainly supported by development of mobile communication devices.

In Azerbaijan, the number of internet users makes 65%, of which 30% are broadband internet users.
