Baku – APA-Economics. Toyota (TM) announced a voluntary recall of 50,000 of its early-model 2003 Sequoias sport-utility vehicle on Wednesday, the latest recall by the Japanese car maker, FOXBusiness reported.

The voluntary recall by Toyota is focusing on the Sequoias’ "vehicle stability control" system, also known as the VSC system, which keeps large vehicles like the Sequoia upright in tight turns and other situations.

Toyota, in a statement, said that an unaltered ’03 Sequoia VSC system could in limited situations activate at low speeds causing the vehicle to not accelerate as quickly as expected.

Toyota said there has been no reported injuries or deaths in connection the recalled VCS system.

The recall of ’03 Sequoias’ VCS system is the second VCS system to be recalled by Toyota this year, following its earlier recall of the Lexus GX 460. In that situation, the magazine Consumer Reports issued a rare "do not buy" warning for the GX 460, saying that a faulty VCS system could lead to rollovers.

According to Toyota, the company instituted a production change in fall 2003 to the Sequoia which led to warranty repairs on vehicles impacted by this condition. Approximately half all Sequoias have already have had this condition repaired, the company said.

Customers with affected Sequoias will get letters starting in mid-May advising owners to get their SUVs repaired at a local dealership.

Shares of Toyota fell 0.1% to $76.91 a share.
