Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-ECONOMICS. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies has held a general meeting to discuss the results of January-September 2009.

the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov spoke about the teledensity of the country, access to the internet from the rural areas, expansion of the broadband Internet and TAE (Trans-Asia-Europe) fiber-optic cable backbone.

Rashad Nabiyev, Accounting and Economic Analysis Officer of the Ministry, made a report about the figures on the number of telephone users, internet subscribers and mobile phone users.

According to him, the transition to electronic telephone exchanges across the country is 84.2% complete.

According to him report, the number of telephone users per 100 people reached 15.7 for the entire country and 34.2% in Baku. The number of mobile phone subscribers increased by 752 000 during January-September to 7.3 million people, or 82 mobile phones per 100 people.

The number of broadband Internet subscribers has grown increased by 1.5 times.

The number of computers and internet users per 100 people was 8 and 37 respectively.
