Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan is hosting a two-day international seminar on Development of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Eastern Europe and Central Asia with support from Azerbaijan Real Estate State Register Service and Kadaster-International of Netherlands.

Arif Garashov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Real Estate State Register Service, said that the national spatial data infrastructure is based on rules, standards and technologies for gathering, processing and using spatial data.

According to him, most countries around the world have already completed the establishment of this infrastructure by setting up a local area network and ensuring registration of real estate on paper-based and electronic media, and through digital cadastral maps.

“The purpose of this seminar is to study international experience and exchange expertise in establishment of national spatial data infrastructures in Eastern Europe and Central Asia,” he added.

He noted there is a need for defining common standards for information exchange.

According to him, the lack of infrastructure delays exchange of information among the country’s Real Estate State Register Service, State Property Management Committee and the State Committee for Land and Cartography.

Rick Voutersin, representative of Kadaster-İnternational, said they have had cooperation with relevant bodies of Azerbaijan for a long period of time.

a long collaboration with the civil service roster of real estate in Azerbaijan and underlined the interest in cooperation with other state structures and private companies.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizadeh noted that Azerbaijan is capable of creating a national data spatial infrastructure.

In his words, the country’s ICT sector will produce more revenue than the oil sector in 2018-2020 as a result of rapid progress in this sector.

Representatives from the Netherlands, Norway, Belarus and Georgia will make reports about their know-how and exchange view on the issue.
