Prosecutor seeks 17 years in prison for Azerbaijan Intâ€™l Bank former head

Baku – APA. The Baku Court of Grave Crimes on Tuesday resumed the trial on the case of the former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan Jahangir Hajiyev and seven more people connected with him.

The public prosecutor demanded to sentence Jahangir Hajiyev 17 years in prison and to deprive him of holding senior positions in state and local self-governance bodies.

The prosecutor also asked the court to sentence Ilgar Abdullayev 8 years, Yusif Alakbarov 11 years, Ibrahim Huseynov 11 years, Anar Sultanov 8 years, Mahammad Jahangirov 8 years, Kenan Orujov 7.5 years and Azad Javadov 12 years and 11 months in prison and to deprive them of holding senior positions in state and local self-governance bodies.

The prosecutor also demanded that the costly watch and other items seized from his Hajiyev’s house be spent to cover his debts. But the bank official demanded that the damage should be paid in full amount.

The attorney asked for time to prepare for their speech. The process will be resumed on October 3.

The former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan Jahangir Hajiyev, the former heads of the bank’s Central branch Anar Sultanov and Ilgar Abdullayev, the former director of Inter Security LLC Ibrahim Huseynov, the former head of the bank’s Central branch Yusif Alakbarov, the former head of the bank’s Transport Branch Kanan Orujov, the former head of the bank’s Narimanov Branch Mammad Jahangirov and the former director of the Baku hazelnut factory Azad Javadov, who are involved in the case, are charged under articles 179.3.1, 179.3.2 (embezzlement on a large scale by an organized group), 308.2 (abuse of power, resulting in grave consequences), 309.2 (abuse of power, resulting in grave crimes), 313 (official forgery), 228.1 and 228.4 (illegal storage and carrying of firearms).
