It is very easy to determine that the Azerbaijani plane was shot down, Russian military expert Pavel Felgenhauer said in an interview with APA's Moscow correspondent.
“The plane either has traces of shrapnel, that is, an explosive artillery shell filled with round bullets, or not. It is so simple to determine this. Therefore, the exact characteristics of the shrapnel will soon be determined. Even the bodies of the dead have traces of it. It is impossible to hide this. Representatives of Brazil, where the Embraer aircraft is manufactured, can also determine this,” the expert emphasized.
According to him, it is very rare for a plane to be shot down and then travel such a distance: “But it is possible. Everything will be known to the fullest. There will be no doubt. It is impossible to lose traces of an artillery shell on the plane, including on the bodies of the dead… The investigation must show this. Then it will be clear what happened.”
"Logically, the plane should have been allowed to land on Russian territory"
Pavel Felgenhauer noted that he could not understand why Russia did not allow the Azerbaijani plane to land at nearby airfields: "Even if they shot it down, why was the plane redirected to Kazakhstan? There is a possibility of an independent investigation of the plane crash in Kazakhstan. Logically, the plane should have been allowed to land on Russian territory so that the Russian side could conduct the investigation. This is an international rule. The investigation is conducted by the country in which the plane crash occurred. Therefore, I do not understand why the plane was redirected to Aktau."
"It seems like something happened here, a rocket was accidentally launched"
The expert said that Russia closed the airspace and airports of the region when the drone attack occurred: "It seems that something happened here, a missile was accidentally launched. Such cases have happened. If you remember, the Ukrainian plane was shot down over Tehran. Everyone on board died then. The Iranian side admitted its mistake. That is why I cannot say why Russia behaved so strangely.
If it is announced that the plane crash was caused by damaging elements, that is, it was hit by a missile, this will certainly be an unpleasant situation. Iran admitted this when it shot down the Ukrainian plane. Therefore, I think that Russia should also admit it sooner or later. Because there is no way to hide the truth here. If there are facts, it will be pointless to hide them. Let's see how it turns out."
How does a Zenit missile damage an aircraft?
Felgenhauer also clarified the situation regarding the explosion of the warhead of a missile launched from the Pantsir-S-Zenit Missile Complex, an air defense system: "A Zenit missile does not explode when it hits the deck of an aircraft. It explodes at a certain distance before reaching the aircraft, and its shrapnel hits the aircraft. But other, for example, Igla missiles hit the aircraft directly, that is, the missile hits the aircraft directly. Therefore, traces of those shrapnel should remain on the aircraft. It is observed that there are those traces on the tail of the Azerbaijani aircraft. These traces should remain both on the aircraft and on the passengers. It is impossible to hide these facts."
The Russian military expert also commented on the information about the alleged explosion of an oxygen cylinder on the aircraft: "I have no idea about this. I am not an expert on the Brazilian-made Embraer aircraft. But I can say that it is impossible to lose track of the shells of a missile launched from an anti-aircraft missile complex. "The injured passenger seen in the video taken from inside the plane while it was still in the air also needs to be examined. If he died, his body needs to be examined. Then traces of the missile shell will definitely be found. Therefore, it is practically impossible to hide these facts."
