APA reports that Richard Morningstar familiarized himself with the living conditions of Udis, ethnic minorities, the history and activity of the church.
The ambassador was informed that “Chotari” Albanian church is one of the most ancient and important monuments in Nij settlement. Nij settlement is regarded as a small model of tolerance. Azerbaijanis, Lezgins and Udis friendly co-exist there. The state has created good conditions for Udis to preserve and develop their language, religion and traditions. There are 3 churches and 2 mosques in the settlement and 5-7 sacred places in every quarter that are visited by Muslims and Christians. 3700 Udis live in the settlement inhabited by 6,000 people. Totally 4000 Udis live in Azerbaijan and 300 of them have been registered in Oghuz and Baku. There are about 10,000 Udis in the world. Udis have been preserving their language, religion and traditions for 2500 years. Following this, the ambassador and his spouse lit the candle, wrote their wishes in the memory book of the church and gifted a book to religious leader.
