Former court judge Elena Khakhalyeva, wanted in Russia, has been detained in Baku, APA reports citing Russian media.
Reported that she was detained at the airport while trying to fly from Baku to Dubai. The necessary documents for Khakhalyeva's extradition have already been requested from the relevant Russian authorities.
The relevant decision will be made after these documents are presented.
Khakhalyeva is accused of fraud and abuse of office. According to sources in Russian law enforcement agencies, the Azerbaijani authorities will decide on Khakhalyeva's extradition. The Rostov-on-Don court issued an arrest warrant in absentia for the former judge. According to the investigation, she fraudulently seized about 1.2 million rubles, and also falsified documents related to the accounting of working hours. The Investigative Committee of Russia issued an arrest warrant for Khakhalyeva and put her on the international wanted list, and on May 17, 2022, she was charged with fraud and dereliction of duty.
