The ongoing trial at the Baku Military Court started to review documents related to deliberate damage to the environment and economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. These acts occurred during the aggressive war waged by the Republic of Armenia, APA reports.
Following the liberation of Azerbaijan's occupied territories, inspections were conducted across the affected areas. Authorities assessed the damage inflicted on each region and village during the occupation.
The documents reviewed list damage to both nature and the economy in the regions of Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Aghdam, Khojavand, Shusha, Tartar, Lachin, and Kalbajar, along with their villages. This includes the destruction of forests and the illegal extraction of mineral resources.
Photographs presented in court confirm that the destruction of trees was intentional, not due to natural causes.
Satellite imagery was also shown. These images depict the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits, including raw materials and ore, in areas previously under occupation.
The prosecution stated that proceeds from this looting were used to fund armed groups formed by the Armenian military. These funds also supported foreign mercenaries, provided weapons, clothing, food, and other supplies, and helped boost the combat readiness of armed groups involved in criminal activities.
Trials continue for Armenian citizens accused of crimes against peace and humanity. These charges include waging a war of aggression, genocide, war crimes, terrorism, financing terrorism, the forcible seizure and retention of power, and other serious offenses.
