The water police have conducted operations against poachers and the hunting of wild birds listed in the Red Book in Azerbaijan, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MIA), APA reports.
According to the information, employees of the MIA's Water Transport Police Department continue takcling illegal fishing, bird hunting, and poaching within their service area - in state reserves and water basins.
During the next control and preventive measures carried out in the Muktadir settlement of Khachmaz district, Elnur Khalilov, who was engaged in illegal fishing in the Caspian Sea, was detained. A total of 32 illegally caught fish, fishing equipment, and a boat were found on him. Investigations are ongoing. It was also reported by the Water Transport Police Department that hunting is strictly prohibited in specially protected areas, including near strategic objects located in the Caspian Sea. Strict measures are expected to be taken by the water police against individuals who grossly violate hunting rules.
The water police are also continuously fighting against the illegal hunting of juvenile sturgeon species released into the Caspian Sea for population growth, as well as against individuals who steal various purpose steel pipes and cables laid along the seabed.
