On April 8, in the service area of the "Lankaran" border detachment of the Border Troops Command of the State Border Service, a border patrol observed the movement of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the border line, which dropped a small-sized package in the area and then returned towards the Islamic Republic of Iran, the State Border Service's Press Office told APA.
The border outpost was immediately put on alert under the “To Arms” command, and the service area was secured.
As a result of the border search and operational measures conducted, Lankaran resident Anar Rasim Hasanov, born in 1988, who arrived at the area to retrieve the dropped package, as well as Razim Mahyaddin Huseynov, born in 1985, a resident of the Gubadli region, who was waiting for him in a car, were detained as suspects.
During initial interrogation, the detainees admitted that they came to the area to collect 4 kilograms and 504 grams of marijuana dropped by the UAV.
It was later determined that both individuals had previous criminal records.
Operational-investigative measures are ongoing regarding the case.
