As part of measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border, combat smuggling, and prevent the illegal circulation of narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, a large amount of narcotics was prevented from being smuggled into the country, APA reports, citing State Border Service.
According to the information, on March 21, during border protection activities carried out by the "Lankaran" border detachment of the State Border Service Border Troops Command, the sound of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was heard near the border line. Shortly afterward, two unidentified individuals were observed moving in that direction by car.
The border outpost was immediately put on alert with the "To Arms" command, and the area was secured. As a result of search and operational measures, the vehicle’s movement was restricted, and two suspects were detained: Ilqar Nuhbala Qurbanov, born in 2000, and Nemat Mollaga Maharramov, born in 1985, residents of Saray settlement, Absheron district.
During the inspection of the vehicle, a total of 6 kilograms and 354 grams of marijuana were discovered and seized. During initial questioning, the detainees admitted that they had arrived to collect the drugs dropped by a UAV from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding the incident.
