The final court hearing has been held in the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) against Namig Nabiyev, who is accused of financing terrorism, APA reports.
The verdict was announced at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes in a session chaired by Judge Nigar Imanova.
According to the verdict, Namig Nabiyev was sentenced to 10 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
Namig Nabiyev, who was detained by the SSS, was charged under Articles 167-3.1 (possession of religious extremist materials) and 214-1 (financing of terrorism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the charges, in connection with the ongoing armed conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic, Namig Nabiyev transferred a total of 28,479 US dollars to bank accounts opened in the names of third parties at various times starting from 2022. It was reported that these funds were delivered to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), recognized as a terrorist organization, thereby creating conditions for their use in the acquisition of weapons and other means for terrorist purposes.
