Conference “Modern Azerbaijani Youth in the past 10 years: successes and perspectives” held

Youth and Sports Ministry sponsored scientific-practical conference on “Modern Azerbaijani youth in the past 10 years: successes and perspectives” was held today. Minister Azad Rahimov told the meeting 2007 was announced the Youth Year according to president’s decree. The Minister said the Youth Year creates big opportunities for youth as that scientific-practical conference held within the Year for Youth. Speaking on the statistical figures on youth the representative of States Statistical Committee Valeh Musayev said 29 percent or more than 4 million of Azerbaijan population are young people of which 52 percent live in the towns and the rest – 48 percent resided in the villages. More than half of them are women. He said the number of newly-married couples increased and the share of divorce decreased from 52 to 41 percent. He said youth death rates decreased too. The youth death rate was 4.8 percent this year against 6.6 percent in 2006. Valeh Musayev said 89 percent of young people are pleased with their health. Much of them are 30-34 year old people. Employment rate decreased from 15 percent to 11 percent among youth. These indicators are 11 percent for men and 12 percent for women. /APA/
