The European Court of Human Rights has sent a written question to Azerbaijani government on the appeal of life-term prisoner Rahib Mensimov serving in Gobustan closed cell house, his lawyer Elman Osmanov told APA.
He stated that the appeal has passed first review in the court. In the written question the European Court asks the government to explain the reason why the court didn’t ensure prisoner’s participation in the legal procedure on his appeals to the Supreme Court and Plenum of Supreme Court. The government is to answer by August 26 this year. Then Mensimov’s appeal will be considered in the ECHR.
Mensimov has been sentenced to life imprisonment, convicted in committing terror act in 20 Yanvar station on March 19, 1994. Mensimov considers himself innocent. 14 died and other 49 injured in result of the terror act. /APA/
