Report on â€œAzerbaijan: Migration and Migrants- 2006â€? presented

Social Union of â€œLegal Assistance to Migrantsâ€? held presentation of the report on â€œAzerbaijan: Migration and Migrants-2006â€?, APA reports. The chief of the union Alovset Aliyev noted that the report reflects generalized information about law on migration. He noted that over 200 million people are living migrant life.
â€œUS take first position for migrants in the world. More that 37million of its population are migrants. Every 8th person in Azerbaijanis is refugee or DP,â€? he said.
He noted that 2 million Azerbaijani citizens live abroad.
â€œOver1, 5 million Azerbaijanis are living in CIS countries and Turkey as labour migrants and 90 000 our compatriots appealed to developed countries for political asylum. Only during last 16 years the number of Azerbaijanis living in Moscow increased by 4, 6 times. Over 500 Azerbaijanis were deported from Russia,â€? he said.
Stressing that nearly 7 000 foreigners live in Azerbaijan, Aliyev noted that 30 000 of them live legally and others illegally. State Committee on Refugees and DP received 186 appeals and 8 of them were considered in 2006. Generally, 4828 foreigners got allowances to work in Azerbaijan. 574 of them came in 2006. Over 400 foreign migrants serve their punishments in Azerbaijani detention wards. 110 migrants were deported from Azerbaijan in 2006,â€? he said.
The chief of Migration department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Defense of Population Rauf Tagiyev said that State Program on migration is implemented in our country. /APA/
