Conference on Juvenile justice in European countries was held in Kiev, Ukraine. The representatives of Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Poland and Bulgaria participated in the conference organized by the UNESCO and Ukraine, Penitentiary Service department chief Rafig Ramazanov told APA.
The situation of child rights, problems on defense of child rights and their solution, countries’ experience in this field were the main topics of discussions. He said that there are near 100 000 homeless children in Ukraine. 25% of Ukrainian people are juveniles and children. 17 500 children committed crimes in 2005 in this country. This number was 8 000 last year. There are 11 jails for children in Ukraine. 431 crimes committed by children were registered in Azerbaijan last year. 61 children are serving at the reformatory places at present. 0.5% of prisoners are children and juveniles. /APA/
