Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations sends a second plane with humanitarian aid to quake-hit Van city of Turkey

Baku – APA. Under the instructions of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, the Ministry of Emergency Situations sent a second plane to Van, the quake-hit region of Turkey, at 05.30 on October 24. APA reports quoting the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations that 250 tents, 3000 blankets, 700 desert bed linens, 2000 bed clothes, 2 desert kitchen sets and extra 20-man service personnel have been sent to Turkey.

Another plane is expected to be sent from Azerbaijan to the disaster-hit region.

Earlier - on October 23, at 22.45, the Ministry of Emergency Situations sent to Van IL-76 with 145 rescuers, rescue equipment, specially trained dogs, necessary equipment.

The rescuers of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived in Ercis town of Van and started rescue operations in six collapsed buildings at 06.15. The rescuers are continuing rescue operations in ten collapsed areas. The first team pulled a woman’s body, the second team pulled the body of 45-50-year-old man from the rubble. The other team has heard human voice from under the rubble and is continuing rescue operations.

The second plane sent from Azerbaijan have reached Van, it will be unloaded soon.

7.2-magnitude quake hit Van city on October 23. Earthquake shocks were felt in Diyarbakir, Batman, Sirnak, Mus, Erzurum, Bitlis, Bingol, Siirt and Mardin.

According to the Seismological Service Center of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, 3.5-magnitude quake was felt in Sederek, Sherur, Babek regions of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan Republic, as well as in Nakhchivan city.

According to official reports, 217 were killed, over 1000 injured in Van earthquake.
