Baku Prosecutorâ€™s Office and Baku Main Police Office issue statement on suicide in temporary detention facility

Jalilabad resident Jeyhun Zarbaliyev was detained on March 23 by Nasimi district police in connection with the fact of injury of Baku resident Seyfaddin Abbasov. Investigation found out that Jeyhun Zarbaliyev knew Seyfaddin Abbasovâ€™s wife Sadagat Abbasova since her childhood. In June-August, 2009, Sadagat Abbasova told Zarbaliyev that she had cool relations with her husband, after that they often talked over the phone. They sent messages to each other even after Sadagat Abbasova returned to Baku. Seyfaddin Abbasov knew that Zarbaliyev sent messages to his wife and phoned him, but Zarbaliyev threatened and insulted him. On March 22, Jeyhun Zarbaliyev came to Seyfaddin Abbasovâ€™s house in Baku and knifed him in the presence of his wife, sister and children. The next day Zarbaliyev was detained. He confessed everything. On March 24, Zarbaliyev was sent to the temporary detention facility of Nasimi district police office. On March 25, at 1 the employees of the detention facility found Zarbaliyev hanged with the lace of his jacket in the cell.

The representatives of the district prosecutorâ€™s office viewed the site and the body. The forensic medical investigation of Jeyhun Zarbaliyev did not found out any injury on the body.
Criminal case has been launched on the fact, investigation is underway.
According to the investigation carried out by the Interior Ministry, three employees of the temporary detention facility, who were on duty that day, were dismissed.
