Forest Brothersâ€™ leader arrested in Pakistan and brought to Azerbaijan

He is accused together with other members of Forest Brothers group in the terrorist attack against Friday Abu Bakr Mosque in Baku on August 17, 2008, which killed two and injured 18.

During the investigation Samir Mehdiyev admitted that terrorist attack in a power transformer in Baku on August 22, 2008 was also committed on order of Forest Brothersâ€™ others leader Ilgar â€œAbdulmajeedâ€ Mollachiyev.

The group of Forest Brothers was rendered harmless and 17 members of the group were detained as a result of operation conducted by the Ministry of National Security in 2007, but legal pursuit against Mollachiyev, Mehdiyev and others was continued. In 2008, 26 other members of the group were detained. Mollachiyev planned to restore the group and to establish armed formations in th regions of the country and therefore he established contacts with Mehdiyev and other religious radicals.

Samir Mehdiyev was arrested in Pakistan and brought to Azerbaijan on March 16, 2010. The investigative measures are continued.

The Ministry of National Security stated that all attempts against the security will be prevented and persons committed illegal actions will be identified and brought to justice.
