Baku police and prosecutor’s office make statement on unauthorized action by group of devouts

A group of 60-70 devout attempted to hold unauthorized march from Haji Sultanali mosque in Baku toward the alley of Martyrs through the crowded Fuzuli Square and Husi Hajiyev Street with heavy traffic at about 15.00 on February 13, said the joint statement of Baku police and prosecutor’s office.
The demonstrators resisted to police, who ask them to stop the unauthorized action and threw stones and slogans they raised towards police. They create traffic problems at the Narimanov Street and used force against police.
Police officers Huseynov Sarvar Huseyn, Shirinov Teymour Geybullah, Abbasov Elshan Orujali, Ahmadli Ramil Eldar, Yusifov Jeyhun Firudin and some of the demonstrators were injured.
The prosecutor’s office launched criminal investigation under article 221.3 (hooliganism with use of various tools as arms), 315.2 (resistance to officials and use of force) of the Criminal Code.
Police is investigating videotapes of the site, blood samples, pieces of stones and boards taken there. The injured police officers and the persons used force against them passed the forensic examination.
Four active participants of the incident were detained as suspect under the articles 221.3 and 315.2 of the Criminal Code and seven were administratively punished for resistance to police.
The investigative measures and operational searches are continued to identify reasons of the incident, as well as all persons organizing it.
