Ideal newspaper founder and editor-in-chief sentenced for 13 years and 3 months of imprisonment with confiscation of property

The court presided over by Judge Azer Orujov declared verdict on Friday.

Nazim Guliyev was sentenced for 13 years and three months of imprisonment with confiscation of property. He will serve the term of sentence in a special penitentiary.

According to the indictment, Guliyev faced charges under Articles 182.2 (Extortion), 182.2.3 (extortion with use of force), 182.3.2 (extortion with a purpose of occupying large size of property), 221.1 (hooliganism) and 234.1 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code.

On May 20, Nazim Guliyev was acquitted from the charge under Article 147.2 (slander, which is connected with accusation of committing serious or especially serious crime) of the Criminal Code but was given six months in prison on insult charges under Article 148 of the Criminal Code.
The lawsuit had been filed by Tenzila Rustemkhanli, chairwoman of Azeri-Turk Women Association, and Sabira Mahmudova.
