Detention term of assassinated Deputy Defense Ministerâ€™s aide prolonged by three months

Baku Military Court held a hearing on Aydin Rafiyevâ€™s case presided over by Judge Salman Huseynov. The court decided to prolong term of Rafiyevâ€™s pre-trial detention by three months due continuation of investigation by the Grave Crime Investigation Department of the General Prosecutorâ€™s Office.

Rafiyevâ€™s term was prolonged for four times.

Aydin Rafiyev and his son Anar Rafiyev were arrested on April 16. The investigative group of the Grave Crime Investigation Office of the Republican Prosecutorâ€™s Office searched the Rafiyevâ€™s house and Mitsubishi Pajero owned by his family. They found Rzayevâ€™s jacket and license number of his car in the Rafiyevâ€™s car. Anar Rafiyev faced charges under articles 177 (robbery) and 179 (embezzlement) of the Criminal Code and court sentenced him to two months in jail.

The defendants said the registration number 10 00 HM owned by Defense Ministry and generalâ€™s winter jacket, which were found in the car, had been given by Bakhtiyar Alasgarov, personal driver of Rail Rzayev, to Aydin Rafiyev for returning to the ministry. Rafiyev did not hand them over to the Defense Ministry.

Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said last October that there was illegal interference in Rail Rzayevâ€™s office just after his death and some materal things were stolen from there. Aydin Rafiyev and others tried to cover up these illegal actions and were arrested for that. The prosecutor general said that they investigated Aydin Rafiyevâ€™s involvement in this crime in any form.
