4845 people are serving imprisonment for illicit drug turnover in Azerbaijan

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov â€“ APA. Over 3100 banned things, 747 cutting tools, 140l alcoholic drinks, 89 mobile phones were found in the penitentiary facilities of Azerbaijan in 2009, public affairs department of Justice Ministryâ€™s Penitentiary Service told APA.

207g narcotic drugs, including 153.8g heroin was found in the penitentiary facilities last year. In general, 41 facts were revealed. 22 prisoners, 16 visitors and 3 employees of the penitentiary facility, who attempted to smuggle narcotic drugs, were revealed.

7 facts of illicit drug turnover were revealed in jails #1, 6, 10, 12 in December last year. According to the Penitentiary Service, 0.223g heroin was found on Eynulla Fatullayev, 0.81g on Shahin Shamsiyev.

The fact was officialized and the materials were sent to Garadagh district police office.

The Penitentiary Service said some human rights activists and representatives of NGOs used this issue for some purposes and confused the people with wrong information.
