Defendants’ petition granted in trial of “Forest brothers”

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. Hearing on the case of the 26-men organized gang, which is accused of forming a group “Forest brothers”, committing a number of crimes, including terror attack on Abu Bakr mosque in Narimanov district continued in the Court of Grave Crimes. APA reports that Karamat Aliyev presided over the hearing. Public prosecutor Murvat Hasanov asked the court to finalize the witnesses’ testimonies and declare the documents. Prosecutor said the great majority of the witnesses had given testimonies. Karamat Aliyev said the claimants presented the names of 92 witnesses to court. 70 of them were interrogated, 3 are abroad, 9 sent letter to court confirming the testimonies they gave in the initial investigation, 1 died, 1 had car accident and is being treated, 8 moved. The defendants underlined the importance of witnesses’ participation in trial. Defendant Elnur Bashirov’s lawyer Firdovse Bakhshaliyeva petitioned for interrogating witnesses Vahid Hasanov and Abdul Babayev. The court granted the petition. The court decided to start declaring the documents and ensure participation of witnesses.

The hearing will continue on September 10.

The defendants are accused of committing explosion in Abu Bakr mosque and other crimes. They faced charges under Articles 214 (terrorism), 120 (premeditated murder), 279 (creation of armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic), 228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives) of the Criminal Code. 26 were detained during the initial investigation.
