Georgia publicizes stipulations to release captain of Buket ship Mehmet Ozturk

Georgia says Turkish citizen, captain Mehmet Ozturk, who was sentenced to 24 years in jail, may be released after paying $18,000. Head of the Densa tanker company Huseyn San said he was ready to pay. The official decision to release the captain will be made after the visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to Georgia on September 7-8.

Poti court passed a decision to fine 3000 lari and release the Azerbaijani crew members of the ship yesterday.

APA’s Georgia bureau reports that Batumi office of the Densa tanker paid the fine. The fate of the ship and the load has not been determined yet.

Four of the crew members are Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijanis Tariyel Nasirov, Asgar Asgarov, Vusal Hamzayev and Akram Zamanov are still held on board the ship. The captain of the ship faced charges of violation of customs rules and rules on foreigners’ entering the occupied territories.
